I am back. After a short time off taking care of my dad I am able to start blogging again. You know it is nice to sit and talk to the older veterans about their time in the military I have talked to many of the older Vets who were amazed that someone my age(44) would be interested in hearing their stories. If you know any older Vets let them know that you are there for them. You will be surprised at how they will talk to you if you take the time to let them.

Take time to remember

As we approach the Memorial Day weekend, Let us take time to remember and honor those who have paid the ultimate price in defense of this country. The deeds of these men and women should never be forgotten

Show them that you care

There are many ways that you can show our men and women in the military that you care. There are many groups that will help you show your support by letting you send packages to the troops and also send cards and letters to them as well. I have heard that these little acts of kindness are really appreciated by the troops and that they are enjoyed not only by the person that they were sent to, but also others as well

Rest in Peace Sgt. Matt Maupin

After almost 4 years of not knowing if Matt was alive or dead, the remains of Sgt. Matt Maupin will be returning home. Though he will not be returning home alive his family can now know what happened to him instead of continually wondering if he was alive or dead. May God grant Matt eternal peace and comfort his family as they lay him to rest.

A video worth seeing

There is a video on the net that is worth a look. It is called Fitna and talks about the Koran and verses that tell to attack nonbelievers. It has been removed from alot of sites due to threats toward people who have tried to show the truth about the "religion of Peace" (Islam). But be warned that if you watch it the video should not be played with children around due to some of the scenes showing violent acts toward people. After viewing this video, I am more concerned for the safety of the men and women who are fighting the war on terrorism. I can only hope and pray that there are no violent repercussions toward anyone anywhere over this video

Remembering all who served

We as Americans need to remember all who have served our country in war and peace All veterans need to be honored and remembered for their service to their country. I have had the honor to be able to sit and chat with WWII vets who would tell me about their times in battle and were surprised that a person my age (44) would want to hear their stories. I have heard stories from Vietnam vets and Korean war vets as well. And all I could say was "Thank you for your Service". No matter what war or time in service all veterans should be remembered for the sacrifices and service that they gave to our country

A wonderfull meeting

I went by the recruiting office near me the other day and introduced myself to the recruiters that were there. As I talked to each one, They told me that they were happy to meet me. I told them that if there was anything that I could do for them to let me know. I told them about the Eagles UP group and that I and all of the others support them and all the other people in the military. I will be keeping in touch with them on a regular basis. You can also try to get to your local recruiting office and let them know that you are there for them.

War drew us from our homeland

A friendly gesture

I want to tell you about a wonderful opportunity that I had. I was invited by a friend of mine to go to the airport near me to welcome home troops who were returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. As we were waiting for the people to arrive, we also found out that 50 members of the 82ND Airborne were also leaving from the airport that same night. As I walked around saying goodbye to the men and women, I could tell that they were happy to have someone say goodbye and to take care before they left. I started getting a little choked up as I talked to the men and women but also felt good that I was letting them know that someone cared about them. After that I returned to where the others were to appear and waited. When their planes landed, I started telling them welcome home and they were all smiles as they walked by. After it was over 2 lieutenants and a Captain came up to me and said thank you for being there and that it meant alot to them and their people that I was there to welcome them home

A wonderfull show of support

On March 15, 2008 I was honored to be a part of a show of support for our military in Washington DC. I am a member of an organisation called Eagles Up. This group is made up of Veterans, family members who have someone in the military and people like me who support our Military. On Saturday the weather cooperated and the sun was shining as we gathered at the Washington Monument. Flags of all the services were flying proudly from flagpoles as people gathered and waited for the rally and march in support of the troops to begin. There were also families there that have lost someone in the war. They are known as Gold Star Families. There were speakers who talked to the crowd about how we and all Americans should be standing behind our troops and letting them finish the missions that they are fighting and not to call for their immediate withdraw. After all the speakers had finished, it was time to start the march. As the people began to march, some people would show their support by honking their car horns and waving to us. As we were marching down Constitution Avenue toward the Capitol most of the people were supportive. The highlight of the march was when a busload of kids and their parents got off their bus and joined us

A new adventure begins

Today I begin a new adventure. I will try to put my thoughts about why America should support their military and their missions here for all to read. I hope that after reading this people will begin to support the men and women who wear the uniforms of the United States military. Since the beginning of this country people have been called on to protect and defend this country and the people who live here. The sacrifices that the people have made when called upon to defend this country are the same today as it was when this country was founded. They are asked to leave their families and travel sometimes to distant lands to fight. It takes someone who really believes in the things that they are asked to do to make such sacrifices, and the men and women of the United States Military believe that they can complete the missions that they have been asked to do
